Help, my dog is licking his front legs!

Excessive licking, biting, or chewing is a common issue in dogs, especially on their front legs. What can you do about it?

When a dog excessively licks or scratches its paws, the area can become red, moist, and painful, commonly known as a hotspot.

Find the cause

Excessive licking or scratching can have various causes, which is why it’s important to consult your veterinarian for the right diagnosis and treatment. Your dog may have an allergy or have developed a food intolerance, causing itching. It’s also possible that your furry friend is licking obsessively due to pain somewhere in their body. The issue could even be behavioral, such as stress or anxiety. The first step is to have a veterinarian determine the cause and recommend the best next steps for your dog’s recovery.

Targeted protection

When your pet is prescribed an ointment after a vet visit or undergoes surgery, they must leave the affected area completely alone! In the past, a collar was used for this purpose. However, thanks to the latest technologies and innovations, we have developed a comfortable way to protect the front legs without restricting your dog's movement or comfort with a bulky collar around the neck.

We offer two options for front leg issues: Recovery Sleeve® and Recovery Double Sleeve®.

Consult your veterinarian if you intend to use the Recovery Sleeve(s)® for medical purposes. Your veterinarian can recommend the appropriate treatment. Regularly check that the fit is not too tight and that the product continues to provide safe protection. We recommend always keeping your pet under the supervision of a responsible adult while using our products.

Protection for one leg

Looking for protection for a single front leg? Cover it with the Recovery Sleeve®. Thanks to its symmetrical design, this sleeve can be used on either the left or right front leg without restricting the other leg or the rest of the body.

Protect both legs

Do both front legs need protection? Choose the Recovery Double Sleeve®. These sleeves cover and protect skin issues on both front legs. A soft protective layer has been added at the elbows, providing extra comfort for (older) dogs that need additional support. With our front leg sleeves, dogs can move freely and comfortably, reducing stress for a faster recovery.
